Staff of the Archwizard of Assentia

Slot none; Aura overwhelming evocation and transmutation; CL 25th; Weight 4 lbs.

This +5 flaming frost shock spell storing ironwood staff was originally crafted and wielded by Derrobane, the Archwizard of Assentia himself. However, at some point after its initial creation, it was touched by the gods of light and infused with legendary and mythical magic. The Staff of the Archwizard of Assentia is carved from a branch of ancient ironwood and inscribed with intricate runes of magic and power. It is shod in adamantine on either end, with the haft entwined with adamantine wire, and grips covered in black dragon hide. Like a normal staff, the staff of the Archwizard of Assentia holds only 10 charges, but regains charges at the rate of 1 charge per day, as long as 1 charge remains. It cannot be recharged normally. While some of its powers use charges, others do not. The staff of the Archwizard of Assentia does not lose its powers if it runs out of charges.

Basic Abilities legendary power (6/day), legendary surge (+1d12; attack and combat maneuver rolls), mythic bond.
Advanced Abilities eternal bond (The Archwizard of Assentia), everlasting, foe-biting, metamagician, powerful (x2), returning, undetectable, unstoppable strike.

If 1 charge is expended (a free action), the staff deals double damage (x3 on a critical hit) for 1 round.

The staff of the Archwizard of Assentia also possesses a number of spell-like powers. The following powers drain 1 charge per usage.
    • Burning hands (maximized)
    • Magic missile (mythic, maximized)
    • Protection from energy
    • Shatter
    • Shield
    • Shocking grasp (maximized)

The following powers drain 2 charge per usage.
      • Cone of cold (mythic, maximized)
      • Dimension door
      • Fireball (mythic, maximized)
      • Haste
      • Lightning bolt (mythic, maximized)
      • Pass wall
      • Wall of fire
      • Wall of ice

The following powers drain 3 charge per usage.
        • Acid fog
        • Chain lighting (mythic, maximized)
        • Delayed blast fireball (maximized)
        • Stoneskin
        • Teleport (greater)
        • Wall of force

The staff of the Archwizard of Assentia can be broken for a retributive strike. Such an act must be purposeful and declared by the wielder. All charges in the staff are released in a 30-foot spread. All creatures and objects within 2 squares of the broken staff take an amount of damage equal to 20 x the number of charges in the staff, those 3 or 4 squares away take an amount of damage equal to 15 x the number of charges, and those 5 or 6 squares away take an amount of damage equal to 10 x the number of charges. All those affected can make DC 25 Reflex saves to reduce the damage by half.

The character breaking the staff has a 50% chance (01—50 on d%) of traveling to another plane of existence, but if he does not (51—100), the explosive release of spell energy destroys him (no saving throw).

Unlike other staves used in a retributive strike, the staff of the Archwizard of Assentia is never completely destroyed. The staff regenerates itself at the rate of 1 hit point per month, until it is fully regenerated. Once it is fully regenerated, it remains without charges until it is recharged through spell absorption.

The staff of the archwizard of Assentia can only be destroyed if it is broken in a retributive strike, emersed in the acid of a great wyrm black dragon, and thrown into the heart of a volcano

The staff of the Archwizard of Assentia was crafted over 200 yeas ago by the derro hero Derrobane, who eventually took upon him the title of Archwizard of Assentia. Following the Off-Worlder War, the Archwizard of Assentia became reclusive and his desire to craft magical items came to a head. Through his studies and constant attempts to craft a powerful staff, the staff of the Archwizard of Assentia came into being. At some point during it's construction, the Gods of light took an interest in his work, and as a reward for his work during the Off-Worlder War, and his labors for the good of the common people, Shi'ar the God of Knowledge and Magic infused the staff with a portion of his own arcane energies. The Archwizard of Assentia has gained complete control over the artifact, and has remained in his possession to this very day as he continues to protect the world from incursions by evil forces.
