Earth Shaper (Elf, Wizard Archetype)

Most elves possess a natural bond to the world of plants and animals, and the magical energies that flow through them. However, the earth shaper draws power from the stone around him, instead of the foliage and fauna. By using this power, he can bend the earth and stone to his will, shaping it into grand edifices and structures such as bridges, buttresses, and fortresses. He can also use his magic to shatter the very stone beneath his feet, cause it to rise up to protect him, or to crush his foes.

Class Features
The earth shaper has the following class features.

Spellcasting: An earth shaper adds the following spells to his spell list, at the indicated spell levels: 1st–magic stone, mighty fist of the earth; 2nd–binding earth, chill metal, ground swell, heat metal, soften earth and stone; 3rd–meld into stone, see through stone; 4th–rusting grasp, spike stones; 6th–binding earth (mass); 7th–stone tell; 8th–earthquake, repel metal or stone; 9th–elemental swarm (earth only).

Earth Crystal (Su): At 1st level, an earth shaper begins play with a special bonded stone called an earth crystal at no cost. This crystal is always masterwork quality. If an earth shaper attempts to cast a spell without his earth crystal in hand, he must make a concentration check or lose the spell. The DC for this check is equal to 20 + the spell's level.

An earth crystal can be used once per day to cast any one of the following earth spells: 1st–expeditious excavation; 2nd–soften earth and stone; 3rd–see through stone; 4th–stoneskin; 5th–passwall; 6th–move earth; 7th–stone tell; 8th–repel metal or stone; 9th–world wave. The chosen spell must be of a level that the earth shaper is capable of casting. This spell is treated like any other spell cast by the earth shaper, including casting time, duration, and other effects dependent on the earth shaper's level. This spell cannot be modified by metamagic feats or other abilities.

An earth shaper can add additional magic abilities to his earth crystal as if he has the required Item Creation Feats and if he meets the level prerequisites of the feat. For example, an earth shaper must be at least 3rd level to add magic abilities to his earth crystal (see Craft Wondrous Item feat). The magic properties of an earth crystal, including any magic abilities added to the crystal, only function for the earth shaper who owns it. If an earth crystal's owner dies, or the crystal is replaced, the earth crystal reverts to being an ordinary masterwork crystal of the appropriate type.

If an earth crystal is damaged, it is restored to full hit points the next time the earth shaper prepares his spells. If the earth crystal is lost or destroyed, it can be replaced after 1 week in a special ritual that costs 200 gp per earth shaper level plus the cost of the masterwork crystal. This ritual takes 8 hours to complete. Earth crystals replaced in this way do not possess any of the additional enchantments of the previous earth crystal. An earth shaper can designate an existing magical crystal as his bonded earth crystal. This functions in the same way as replacing a lost or destroyed earth crystal except that the new magic crystal retains its abilities while gaining the benefits and drawbacks of becoming a bonded item.

This ability, earth supremacy, earth shape, spontaneous casting, and earth glide replace arcane bond and arcane school.

Earth Caller: When an earth shaper that casts a summon monster spell summons, he summons the earth type creatures listed on Table: Summon Monster (Alternative) below, instead of the normal creatures.

Earth Supremacy (Su): At 1st level, an earth shaper gains a +2 enhancement bonus to his CMD to resist bull rush, drag, reposition, trip, and overrun attempts as long as he is touching the ground. This bonus increases by +1 for every five earth shaper levels he possesses. In addition, the earth shaper gains a +1 insight bonus on melee attack and damage rolls whenever both he and his foe are touching the ground. At 20th level, earth and stone do not block the line of effect of the earth shaper’s spells, although they do still block his line of sight.

Earth Shape (Su): At 1st level, an earth shaper can form an existing piece of stone into any shape that suits his purpose. This functions as the stone shape spell. At 10th level, an earth shaper can use this ability to form an existing piece of metal into any shape he desires. When using this ability in this way, it only affects 10 cubic inches of metal +1 cubic inch per earth shaper level. An earth shaper can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Intelligence modifier.

Spontaneous Casting: At 3rd level, an earth shaper can channel stored spell energy into earth spells that he hasn't prepared ahead of time. She can “lose” a prepared spell in order to cast any spell with the earth descriptor of the same level or lower.

Master of Earth and Stone (Ex): At 5th level, an earth shaper is a master of manipulating, controlling, and shaping earth and stone. Once per day, whenever the earth shaper casts a spell with the earth descriptor, he can do one of the following as a swift action.
  • Increase the spell’s save DC by +1.
  • Increase the spell’s damage die by one category (1d4 to 1d6, 1d6 to 1d8, etc.)
  • Increase one aspect of the spell’s effect (area, range, damage, etc.) by 50%.

At 10th level and every five levels thereafter, an earth shaper can use this ability one additional time per day. This ability replaces bonus feats.

Earth Glide (Su): At 8th level, an earth shaper gains the ability to move through earth, dirt, and stone for a number of rounds per day equal to his earth shaper level. He cannot move through worked earth or stone; only natural substances can be traversed. If his total duration expires before he exits the earth, he is flung back to the point where he entered the stone, take 4d6 points of damage, and is stunned for 1 round. The earth shaper’s burrowing does not leave a hole, nor does it give any sign of his presence (although he can be detected by creatures with tremorsense). These rounds do not need to be consecutive.
