Earthbound Crusader (Umbrin, Paladin Archetype)

Umbrin are a noble and practical race of orcs who have become one with the very soil they till and nurture. As such, it is not surprising that those few who are pure of heart have learned to harness this natural affinity to become a champion with the strength and durability of the earth.

Class Features
The earthbound crusader has the following class features.

Earth Strike (Su): Once per day per paladin level, an earthbound crusader can draw upon the power of the earth and stone beneath her. As a swift action, she treats her melee attacks until the beginning of her next turn (whether armed or unarmed) as magical and adamantine, including ignoring hardness up to twice her paladin level, with a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls, as well as on combat maneuver checks. This bonus also applies to her CMD if she or her target is touching the ground or a stone structure. This bonus increases by +1 at 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter. This ability replaces smite evil.

Hard as Stone (Ex): At 2nd level, whenever an opponent rolls to confirm a critical hit against an earthbound crusader, treats the earthbound crusader’s AC as +4 higher than normal. This ability replaces the mercy gained at 3rd level.

Earth Channel (Su): At 4th level, an earthbound crusader gains Elemental Channel (earth) as a bonus feat, which she may activate by spending two uses of her lay on hands ability, using her paladin level as her effective cleric level. This ability replaces channel positive energy.

Earth Spells: An earthbound crusader adds the following spells to her paladin spell list at the indicated spell levels: 1st—expeditious excavation, lead blades, magic stone, stone fist; 2nd—acid arrow, chill metal, create pit, elemental speech, heat metal, resist energy, shatter, soften earth and stone, stone call, stone call; 3rd—draconic reservoir, elemental aura, keen edge, protection from energy, stone shape, versatile weapon; 4th—dragon’s breath, spike stones, stoneskin, wall of stone.

Stony Step (Ex): At 6th level, the earth recognizes its kinship with the earthbound crusader and does not impede her movement. She gains the oread’s Stony Step racial feat. This allows the earthbound crusader to move through 5 feet of earth- or stone-based difficult terrain (rubble, stone stairs, and so on) each round as if it were normal terrain. This feat stacks with similar feats such as Acrobatic Steps and Nimble Moves. This feat allows you to take a 5-foot step into this kind of difficult terrain. This ability replaces the aura of resolve.

Anchored Stance (Su): At 9th level, once per day as a move action, an earthbound crusader can anchor herself to the ground beneath her feet. When this ability is used, she cannot be moved, pushed, or dragged from her position. If a creature pushes against the earthbound crusader while this ability is active, it must succeed at a DC 30 Strength check to move her up to 10 feet in a single round. The earthbound crusader must be in contact with the ground for this ability to function. This ability replaces the mercy gained at 9th level.

Ground Breaker (Ex): At 11th level, as a full-round action, an earthbound crusader may strike the ground with her weapon. If the attack deals more damage than the floor's hardness, the space she occupies and all adjacent squares become difficult terrain. Creatures in those squares, except for the earthbound crusader, are knocked prone (DC 15 Reflex negates). The earthbound crusader can spend one use of her lay on hands to extend the radius of this effect by 10 feet. At 14th level and every three levels thereafter, the extended radius increases by an additional 5 feet, up to 20 feet at 20th level. This ability replaces aura of justice.

Tremorsense (Su): At 15th level, an earthbound crusader can, as a swift action, gain tremorsense 15 feet for a number of rounds equal to her earthbound crusader level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. At 19th level, the range of this tremorsense increases to 30 feet. This ability replaces the mercy gained at 15th level.

Earthbound Champion (Ex): At 20th level, an earthbound crusader’s body transforms into living stone. She no longer needs to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep, and she becomes immune to paralysis, poison, and stunning. She is also no longer subject to critical hits or precision-based damage. In addition, she can gain the effects of a stoneskin spell for a number of minutes per day equal to her earthbound crusader level. These minutes do not need to be consecutive, but must be spent in 1-minute increments. This ability replaces holy champion.
