DESCRIPTION

Once wielded by an ancient and powerful Wizard King of the Kingdom of Zrog, Silverthorn was forged by human bladesmiths with the aid of a pure and upright wizard, specialized in water and ice magic, thus making the sword cool to the touch. With many of his enemies warring against him and his people, the Wizard King was finally betrayed and slain by his own Captain of the Guard. The sword was then whisked out of the country by the conspirators and taken to some unknown locale, becoming lost to the Kingdom of Zrog for many generations. However, the blade has once again resurfaced after its long absence, discovered by a young and powerful wizard named Nyar Helshir. With Silverthorn in hand, Nyar has carved out his own kingdom called Aestivica, and establish his reputation in the history of the world as a noble and powerful Wizard King like those of ancient days. The sword remained in the hands of this king for many decades, but has since disappeared once again. With its location unknown, many ambitious and power hungry spellcasters of the arcane arts continue to seek it for their own.

Silverthorn is a finely crafted +3 holy spell storing mithral longsword. It has arcane runes etched in gold and silver entwined along it’s blade, the crosspiece has thorny vines engraved in gold, the handle is crafted from ironwood and has a large starburst cut sapphire set into the end of the silver pommel. Any non-good creature that attempts to wield it are struck for 4d6 points of cold damage and may make a Fortitude save (DC 17) for half damage. Silverthorn only functions as a +3 holy mithral longsword when in the hands of any good creature that is not arcane spellcaster. However, in the hands of an arcane spellcaster of good alignment, (bards, wizards, and sorcerers included), its full powers are realized.
