Giant Killer (Orog, Ranger Archetype)

The blood of giants course through an orog’s veins, a legacy of their ogre heritage. While most orogs pay this legacy no heed, some seek to tap into the wellspring of power that lies just below the surface of their skin. The giant killer draws upon the powers of his giant heritage and uses them more easily destroy their most hated enemies. Class FeaturesThe giant slayer has the following class features. Favored Enemy (Ex)

A giant killer must select humanoid (giant) as his first favored enemy. Giant Empathy (Ex)

This is exactly like wild empathy ability, except that the giant killer can improve the initial attitude of a humanoid creature with the giant subtype, or an animal . Over-Sized Weapon (Ex)

At 2nd level, a giant killer can wield weapons of one size category greater than normal that he is proficient with without penalty. This ability replaces the combat style feat gained at 2nd level.

Hereditary Bond (Su)

At 4th level, a giant killer forms a bond with his giant heritage. This bond allows the giant killer to increase his size (as enlarge person) as a standard action for 1 minute per giant killer level. This ability causes him to instantly grow twice his height, multiply his weight by 8, and increase his size category by one category (Small to Medium, Medium to Large, etc.). He also gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a –2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a –1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to his increased size.

At 9th level, the size bonus to Strength increases to +4 and he also gains a +2 size bonus to Constitution.

At 14th level, a giant killer can use this ability to assume the form of a frost giant, fire giant, hill giant, or stone giant. Every minute in giant form counts as two minutes against the giant killer’s total number of minutes per day. In all other respects, this effect functions as the giant form I spell.

A giant killer can use this ability once per day at 4th level, and one additional time per day for every three levels beyond 4th, to a total of six times per day at 19th level. This ability replaces hunter’s bond.

Giant Bane (Su)

At 5th level, a giant killer can imbue one of his weapons with the bane weapon special ability as a swift action. This ability only functions against humanoid creatures with the giant subtype and while the giant killer wields the weapon. If dropped or taken, the weapon resumes granting this ability if it is returned to the giant killer before the duration expires. This ability lasts for a number of rounds per day equal to the giant killer’s level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. This ability replaces 2nd favored enemy.

Combat Style Feats

A giant killer favors the two-handed weapon style, as it allows him to deal larger amounts of damage against giants.

Large and in Charge (Ex)

At 7th level, a giant killer’s space is treated as one size larger for the purpose of threatening other creatures. In addition, when the giant killer makes a successful attack of opportunity against an opponent who is moving inside your threatened area, you can force the opponent back to the square he was in before he provoked the attack. After the giant killer hits with his attack of opportunity, he makes an opposed Strength check against his opponent. The giant killer gains a +4 bonus for each size category larger than his opponent he is, and an additional +1 bonus for every 5 points of damage he’s dealt with his attack of opportunity. If the giant killer win the opposed check, his opponent is pushed back 5 feet into the square he just left. This ability replaces woodland stride.

Greater Giant Bane (Su)

At 12th level, whenever a giant killer uses his giant bane ability, the amount of bonus damage dealt by the weapon against humanoid creatures of the giant subtype increases to 4d6. This ability replaces camouflage.

Awesome Blow (Ex)

At 17th level, a giant killer can as a standard action perform an awesome blow combat maneuver against a creature of up to one size larger. If the combat maneuver check succeeds, the opponent takes damage as if the giant killer hit it with the weapon he is wielding, it is knocked flying 10 feet in a direction of the giant killer’s choice, and it falls prone. The giant killer can only push the opponent in a straight line, and the opponent can't move closer to the giant killer than the square it started in. If an obstacle prevents the completion of the opponent's move, the opponent and the obstacle each take 1d6 points of damage and the opponent is knocked prone in the space adjacent to the obstacle. (Unlike the Awesome Blow monster feat, the giant killer can be of any size to use this ability.) This ability replaces hide in plain sight.

Giant Slayer (Su)

At 20th level, a giant killer becomes a true slayer of giants. He can always move at full speed while using Survival to follow tracks without penalty. He can, as a standard action, make a single attack against a humanoid creature with the giant subtype at his full attack bonus. If the attack hits, the target takes damage normally and must make a Fortitude save or die. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the giant killer's level + the giant killer’s Wisdom modifier. A giant killer can choose instead to deal an amount of nonlethal damage equal to the creature's current hit points. A successful save negates this damage. A giant killer can use this ability once per day against each specific type of giant (ettin, frost giant, ogre, etc.), but not against the same specific type more than once in a 24-hour period. This ability replaces master hunter.
